Festivals In Kerala | Kerala Pooram list 2023

Kerala is Known as God's Own Country, Kerala is a paradise for tourists. This place not only offers many attractions but is also famous for its culture and cuisine. The diverse culture of Kerala is mainly shaped by Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam. There are many festivals in Kerala; each has its own flavor and music. These festivals give you a taste of the state's rich heritage. Kerala also hosts many temple festivals which are celebrated over several days. Here is a list of popular festivals in Kerala and kerala pooram list 2023. Mainly these pooram and thalappoli festivals are more and more in Thrissur and Palakkad Districts only, from the month of February in both Thrissur and Palakkad districts pooram will start. I have added pooram list of palakkad and Thrissur in 2023 in this blog. Especially pooram list of Palakkad and Thrissur you can see.

Kathakali

Kathakali is Famous all over the world, the splendor of Kathakali has won great admiration from the state of Kerala. Proud that this famous art originated on the coast of Kerala more than 300 years ago. It combines devotion, theatre, dance, music, costumes and make-up into a divine experience for all who can see. It tells the great stories of the past mainly from Indian epics and let you be mesmerized by the various subtleties of the performance. Every twitch of the lips, flicker of the eyes, or movement of the circling fingers has great significance. Throughout the performance, the audience cannot take their eyes off the spectacle unfolding on stage. The costume is elaborated on the faces painted in vibrant shades. The Vesham or makeup consists of five types - Pacha, Kathi, Thadi, Kari and Minukku.

Vallamkkali

One of Kerala's oldest traditions, the Aranmula or Aranmula Utrittathi Vallamkali rowing race is a major event held from August to September. These boat races are usually held during the harvest season and perhaps the most important of these are the kite boat races or Chundan Vallam. An energetic event where a row of rowers in hypnotic synchronization prepare to row at full speed. The Champakulam Moolam Boat Race is one of the most popular races on the Pampuzha River near Alappuzha. The race is organized at the start of the state's rainy season and is held annually in June/July. According to legend, it is organized on the occasion of the day when the idol of Lord Krishna was brought by boat to be installed in the temple of Sri Krishna in Ambalapuja. Colorful boats rowed by hundreds of men are a mesmerizing sight. Tourists can also take part in the Jalotsawom or Payipad boat races, which are held on the Payipad River in Alappuzha. This race is organized to commemorate the installation of Lord Subramanian's idol at the Haripada Subramanya temple and takes place during the Onam festival. It is a breathtaking sight to watch a series of snake boats being rowed by hundreds of men competing against each other. Participating in the Kallada Boat Race or Kallada Jalotsawam held on the Kallada River in Kollam can be an exciting experience. In this annual race, held on the 28th day after Onam, about 10 boats compete for the Kallada Rolling Trophy and a prize of Rs one lakh. This race can be seen from the picturesque Munro Island. One race not to be missed is the annual Nehru Trophy rowing race held in the calm waters of Punnamda Lake in Alappuzha. This race draws huge crowds as crowds gather to watch the energetic competition taking place across the mile long lake. A two-day festival organized during Onam, the Aranmula snake boat race, is the annual festival of Sri Parthasarathy Temple. It is more than a race, it is a ritual involving more than 25 paliyodams or snake boats, 100 rowers, 15 helmsmen and 25 singers. Boats are decorated with luminous umbrellas, colorful tassels and flags.

Onam

Onam is a godlike holiday from God's own country. This is the year when Kerala comes alive with trumpets, drums, elephants, boat races, dance, art, music, floral displays, lamps, flowers, rituals and joyous onasadyas, without which the celebrations are incomplete. Whether you are a Malayali or not, the spirit of Onam is universal. Onam is a traditional Malayalam festival that originated in Kerala. Onam is a religious and cultural holiday celebrated by Malayalis all over the world. Onam 2023 date is August 31, 2023

Pooram

Pooram refers to temple festivals which represent the heart and soul of Kerala. Entire neighborhoods come alive as the streets are decorated to celebrate these events. Masked elephants roam the streets and the roars of approving crowds can be heard in the distance. Many folk art performances take place as the area around the temple transforms into a virtual carnival. The colors on display are mesmerizing and people religiously look forward to these Poram festivals every year. Some of the notable temple festivals in the state are listed below. Each has its associated rituals and traditions and must be experienced first hand to truly appreciate their glory and beauty.

Christmas

As in other places, the number of Christians in Kerala is increasing day by day. This is why Christmas is a very big celebration in Kerala thanks to all the Christian communities. Well, no need to explain why we celebrate Christmas. Everyone knows the story of the birth of baby Jesus.
